Afro Centric-Jersie Young

I met Jersie couple of months at an event before our shoot. To be precise it was at a Valentine's Day diner.  The next day I contacted her about doing a shoot with me, and she agreed. Since we both didn't have much time or the budget for anything big we decided to brainstorm on something simple but fun. We decided to go with African prints base on the fact that she has quite a few beautiful African outfits.

Location wise, we wanted something that would complements the African theme.  Minnehaha Falls work best for this shoot because there some beautiful dried wooded areas and a stream. After some long steep stairs  we made it to the bottom of the cliff. In March, the snow has just melted and everything was pretty brown.

As Jersie opened up her bag, my eyes lit up with excitement. Few nights before,  I sent  Jersie  few examples of what I had in mind and told her to bring whatever she had that could work. To my surprised, the African prints were just vivid in colors and beautiful.

Jersie was so prepared for this shoot it was just amazing. She had accessories that went with each outfit. This is one girl who knows how to put colors together. For the next sets of shots I wanted something by the water and on the rocks. We had to find the perfect spot since the location was crawling with so many people trying to enjoy the first drop of sun that Minnesota had to offer. We finally found a spot, but boy oh boy were we in for a surprise. We had to walk through the water to the other side in order to get on the rocks. The water was freaking cold, in fact it was freezing. Like I said before, the snow had just melted. Our feet were freezing, but Jersie was way ahead of me. She was determined to make the best of what we had.

 Makeup by Jersie

My job as a photographer, was made easy. All I had to worried about was shooting, posing, and minor help in other aspects of the shoot.

This is just a beginning. Jersie and I have plans to work together again. Time is our only enemy for personal projects like these.

Winnie & Koko's Wedding

Thanks to the lovely couple for the opportunity to be part of their big day. It was my pleasure to cover their wedding (October 24, 2015).

Details are essential to a wedding. Keeping the details (dress, rings, shoes, bouquets, etc.) in the same room with the bride is important. Having all of the pieces together make photographing details easy. Although, during the thick of things, the weddding party is not focus on the aesthetics, mainly becuase at this point they expect everything to be in place. After the wedding, when the comotion cools, and the possibilities of things going wrong is far gone, is when the bride and groom can apreciate all aspect of their wedding day.

Wedding photography is telling the couple's wedding story from beginning to end. So you know what's next. [Bride & Groom prep]

Let's head to the church for the *I Do's *

Wedding photography can be unpredictable. Most times, it is very difficult to have a personal session with the bride and groom and their parties on that special day because things are moving very fast. Usually, after the church ceremony everyone is eager to get to the reception hall. For this wedding we pre-arranged for an on-location shoot between the church and the reception hall. This was a time for the bride and groom to cool off.

Lastly, The Reception. Fun! Fun! And more fun!

Editorial Inspired

It is always nice to know that creativity has no limit. You can keep advancing through experiments , trials and errors. I consider myself a lifestyle photographer but that doesn't limit me to just that.

I'm trying  out  new projects, which  I planned to share once a month at most. I believe these projects would strengthen my skills and help aspiring models, musicians, designers, makeup artists, and other creative individuals. I believe this would be a great way to network and support each other.

You wouldn't believe this shoot was done  under a seven degrees Minnesota weather. She makes it seems so warm and cozy, in reality, we were freezing our butts off out there. With my busy schedule, that was the day that could work for the both of us. Talk about determination, especially in these next photos. No jacket.

RKD&P Packaging Presentations

One of my projects for 2014 was to come up with unique ways to present finished products to my clients.  As a graphic artist, I understand how important branding is to the success of a business. I wanted everything that I give to my clients to be aesthetically pleasing including the packaging.  As a small business owner with no employees, I do everything: cd  and flash drives design, logo, business cards, and photo printing. The process was time consuming, from conception to completion. For now, I like how far I have come with presentation. It's an evolving process, but I'm excited to be on this journey.

Fatoumata Diawara's concert @ Ceder Cultural Center

It was a pleasure meeting the wonderful Fatoumata Diawara. The Malian songstress is out of this world with knowledge of Africa, music, and philosophy on the rights of women and girls.  Sprinkled with bits of international influences, her music remains quintessentially African.

My partner and I enjoyed the show. I was taken by her vocals and native Malian attire. She is very approachable; always smiling and interacting with her fans. If you get an opportunity to see her perform, go! You will not be disappointed.
